Volunteer

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering for the Canadian Dachshund Rescue, Ontario (CDRO)! Without our dedicated archie.PNGdachshund-loving volunteers we wouldn’t be able to do what we do! CDRO is always looking for enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers.

Take a moment to review the volunteer opportunities below:

Foster: care for, socialize, train and help rehabilitate a dog in your home. Foster parents are also asked to bring their foster dog to as many CDRO events as possible. Criminal Record Checks are required for this position.

Placement Counsellor: contact and interview CDRO applicants, check references and match the applicant with a suitable dog. Criminal Record Checks are required for this position.

Volunteer: whether it’s helping CDRO staff an event booth, transporting dogs to and from foster homes, designing marketing material or assisting in fundraising initiatives, CDRO always has the need (and desire!) for passionate wiener lovers like you. Criminal Record Checks are required for this position.

Have a skill or an interest that we haven’t included? We welcome other ideas and suggestions!

If you have a passion for the long-dog and some free time to invest in saving the lives of rescued weenies then we’d love to hear from you!

I find it rewarding to watch the dogs blossom over the time they spend with me. They arrive in some combination of scared, fearful, untrusting and dirty, smelly, their coats in poor condition, perhaps with medical issues and often underweight. As time passes among other things, they start to trust, learn to play, walk on a leash and go outside to go to the bathroom. We look after their medical issues and feed them high quality food. Their coats improve and they gain weight. They become loving dogs. While it is hard to see them move on, I know they are going to good homes that will love them and give them all they deserve. By letting them move on, I can then save another dog that hasn’t had a very good start to life.”  Cathy R
