Characteristics of the BreedGlitter-6 Final

  • Developed as a hunting dog
  • A dachshund should have the instinct to hunt as well as the nose and voice to go with it
  • Is the only dog to hunt above and below ground
  • Built to go into burrows, with short strong legs to push the dog into the tunnel
  •  Bred to hunt badgers which means they are not timid. They will stand up for themselves even if that means standing up to a larger dog
  • They can be fearless and bossy
  • AKC standard says the dachshund is “clever, lively, and courageous to the point of rashness, persevering in above or below groundwork.”
  • Intelligent, happy, disobedient, self-willed, affectionate
  • Feisty, loyal, mischievous, brave, curious
  • Known to be diggers, enjoy digging in your lawn and garden if left unsupervised

Wieners and kids

  • Due to their size, shape and personality dachshunds are often best suited to homes with children over the age of 12

Coat types

  • Smooth –Lacking in a true winter coat, the smoothies often need a few extra articles of clothing to survive in colder climates
  • Long haired –Typically more laid back and sweet, they love the water
  • Wirehaired – Outgoing full of energy, persistent in pursuit, more like a terrier

Sizes kato

  • Standard – 16-32lbs
  • Tweenie – 12-20 lbs with a smaller body structure
  • Mini – 11 lbs or less


  • 14-18 years


  • Require daily mental and physical stimulation.
  • Two or three 15-30 minute walks a day is great way to keep your wiener in shape!
