And now a few words from me:

Allow me to introduce myself… I’m Ozzie. I’m a mature fellow, although I’m still young enough to enjoy chasing my own tail! I’m a laid-back guy, who enjoys giving kisses and going for long walks. I’m resourceful too; I’ll pull the blankets out of my crate and make a bed for myself on the floor. My foster mom has been letting me up on the big bed in the morning for a cuddle. Sometimes I sleep under the covers and sometimes I sleep on top of them. At times I can be a nervous guy. The vet says that my medical condition (Cushings Syndrome) often includes some anxiety. This can manifest itself when I’m travelling in the car, for example. And occasionally I get startled, so I would do best with older, dog-savvy children. I need an experienced owner who will show me the rules and enforce them. My ideal home would have someone who is home a lot of the time. If you have a cat, that would be okay too, but I’d be fine as an only pet. Would you like to hang out with me?

And now a few words from my foster family:

Ozzie is very sweet to have in the home. He is a very person-oriented dog. He is starting to show some interest in playing with the resident dogs. He enjoys a bone to chew on, but may resource guard it with another dog. When he is anxious, he cries rather than barks and he can sound like someone is hurting him. His anxiety is decreasing but will likely return when he moves to his forever home, at least initially. Ozzie is very food-motivated, and not surprisingly, needs to lose several pounds. He’s done really well since coming into the care of CDRO and will need an owner that will help his continue his weight loss journey as his ideal weight is about 15 lbs.

Important medical information:

Ozzie has Cushings Syndrome, and his forever family will need to understand the treatment and handling of his condition. He will require medication for the rest of his life, along with extra vetting annually. All costs related to medication and ACTH Stimulation Tests (as recommended by a CRDO-approved veterinarian) are being generously paid for by a CDRO donor for the rest of Ozzie’s life.

Cushings Syndrome is caused by a tumor on either the pituitary or adrenal gland, 80 to 90% of which are benign. Symptoms may include excessive thirst (not witnessed in Ozzie), hair loss and obesity. These dogs are also immune suppressed which may lead to other health issues.
