Dorian - Adopted!

Dear future family:

Hi! Let me introduce myself! My name is Dorian. I came to CDR through no fault of mine, when my previous owners could no longer care for me. Now I’m hoping to finally find my furever home. Foster mom says I sure do deserve a family of my very own. I’m a 4 year old short haired long, lean and handsome boy. I’m a pretty special dog too, because I’m a double dapple. That means that due to uneducated breeding, I was born blind. But believe me, I don’t let that stop me! I do see light and shadows, and that’s how I make my way around. My awesome sense of smell and hearing help me out with that too. I do need some help to keep me safe – I don’t always see steps, and I bump into things if they are in my path, but as long as you take a little extra care, I will find my way around just fine! I know where the door is, and I let my foster family know when it’s time for me to go outside – yep, that’s right, I’m 100% housebroken. Pretty great trick for a dachshund, don’t you think? I know some other tricks too -how to sit pretty, how to shake a paw, and even how to roll over. I’ll show you how I do all these tricks even without you asking me, as long as you have a cookie in your hand.

I absolutely LOVE to go for walks, and I love riding in the car too! I love all the smells, the feel of the grass under my feet, and the wind in my fur!

I can be vocal at times – my hearing is pretty great, and I sometimes bark at the things that I hear, so apartment living isn’t for me.
Foster mom says I’m a big snuggle puss….I’m not sure what that means, but I do love a good cuddle. At night, I like to sleep in the big bed right next to you. I hope you have a big bed! I’m pretty long and I like to stretch out. But I also love to just curl up and be right next to you. I’m great with other dogs, and I even met a cat! I’m not sure what they look like, but they move pretty fast and seem like they would be fun to chase. I’ve tried a few times to chase the ones in my foster home but they keep getting away.

Because I’m blind, I don’t really like to be alone, and I really don’t like to be in my crate. It makes me really anxious and I get pretty worked up. Ideally, I’d love to go to a home where you aren’t away for too long. I need to be in an adult-only home as well. Small people can move pretty fast, and I won’t always be able to get out of the way.

Well, that about sums me up. Do you think you might be the family for me? I’m waiting ever so patiently to meet you.

Love, Dorian
