And now a few words from me:
My name is Derek, and I’m a great guy that needs a confident owner/family. It’s important that I be able to form a bond and trust relationship, and then we will be on our way to an amazing, life-long relationship. I also need to know that my human always has my back. I absolutely love to exercise, both short runs and long walks. I sleep in my crate at night; I find it comforting and I do not hesitate to go in. I am still learning to play with toys, but with a little encouragement, I will figure it out. I prefer a calm environment, as too much excitement makes me feel confused and overwhelmed. When I am overwhelmed or unsure I chirp at the human to let them know it’s going too fast for me. I need patience and understanding to be shown, and then we can be friends. I will need to stay on a leash when outside an unsecured area cause I will bolt if I get a chance. When I get scared I run like the wind!!!! So my leash and my trusting human is my security and I know I do not need to be scared of anything.
And now a few words from my foster family:
Derek loves going for lots of walks and is awesome on a leash. He listens well, but he cannot ever be off leash, as he will bolt given the chance. He is extremely affectionate and funny when he is around people he trusts, but that list is usually a small one. He is smart and protective, so he needs someone that will not feel sorry for him and let him take an inch, because he is smart and will take a mile. Derek would be the perfect companion for someone that is home more often than not and can keep him on routine and socialized, or with a family that has another dog to help him learn to be a dog with more confidence and social ease.
